Even police officers can injure others in DUI car accidents

Kentucky drivers will understand the dangers of drunk driving accidents. Injuries and fatalities can happen because of them. When there is a drunk driving accident and people are injured, emergency responders and police are the ones who are supposed to assist, not be the driver in a DUI crash. However, there are times where police officers who are off duty will have car accidents and be found to have been under the influence. Since injuries can be long-lasting and costly, those who were injured in a crash must make sure they have legal advice to accrue evidence and pursue compensation in a legal filing.

A law enforcement officer in his personal vehicle crashed into a woman while he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The accident occurred in the evening at about 6:30 p.m. when the male officer was in his 2018 Chevrolet pickup truck. When on-duty law enforcement arrived to investigate, they found the driver hiding beer bottles. He was tested to determine his blood-alcohol content and it was found to be .159. That is nearly twice the legal limit.

The man was near his truck and the investigating officers smelled alcohol. He was standing unsteadily, slurring his words and his eyes were bloodshot. He was asked to take field sobriety tests, but did not think he could. He was arrested on DUI charges. He also had a prior arrest for DUI four years ago, but did not spend any time in jail. The woman who he crashed into was injured and hospitalized. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening and doctors are expecting her to recover.

Even when injuries from car accidents are initially not believed to be serious, there can be lingering issues that arise well after the person has been discharged and seemingly returned to normal. Back injuries, head injuries, pain - all can be problematic in any crash. Medical costs can accumulate, the person could be unable to get back to work and do the duties required, or other problems can come up. It is essential for anyone who is involved in a car crash to seek legal assistance to be protected and take the necessary steps for a legal filing.

A woman was injured when a pickup truck crashed into her. Although she is expected to recover, it is not automatic that she will return to normal with no issues. What makes these car accidents worse is when the other driver is someone who should have known better as a member of law enforcement. She must make sure she is shielded from any medical problems after the crash by contacting a law firm experienced in car accidents to consider a lawsuit.
