Testosterone Therapy

Testosterone therapy is intended to help men prevent the natural decline of testosterone that comes with aging. The treatment was developed to improve mood, sex drive, increase bone density commonly noticed in patients over the age of 65. Recently there have been cases of young adult men experiencing severe complications leading to permanent injuries or even death have been reported.

On January 31, 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration released a safety announcement warning consumers of the potential risk for heart attack and stroke with the use of testosterone therapy. The FDA noted that they have been monitoring the risk and decided to reevaluate the safety issues surrounding the use of testosterone therapy following the publication of two separate studies noting increased cardiovascular risk with use of this therapy.

Testosterone Research.

The research published November 6, 2013 in the Journal of the American Medical Association noted that men younger than 65 with a history of heart disease had a two to three fold increase in risk of heart attack over men that received not treatment at all. For men over the age of 65, there was a twofold risk increase for those even without a history of heart disease. A study published in 2010 was noted to have similar findings
